We are changing

Almost 4 years ago, we embarked on this journey to bring our farmers a new kind of publication, one that has never been done, in this format before. Not as far as agricultural publications go, anyway. Taking advantage of the new features mobile magazine newsstands, that was first rolled out by Apple for their iOS devices (later followed by Android) presented. We were able to publish a magazine that was not only filled with some of the latest news from around the world, but we were also able to deliver an interactive experience for our readers with embedded videos, interactive links, texts only versions and many other features formerly available only on websites. But, as with just about every business out there, there comes a time for renewal and our time is now.

Farmer magazine
So what changes are we planning here at Farmer Mag HQ for 2018?

Firstly, we are changing our subscription frequency. This is a decision that we didn’t take lightly, but is something that has been recommended by us for a while now, both from our readership base and other industry experts. We have been reluctant to do this, but decided that with the face-lift, that we are about to give the magazine, now will be the time to introduce this change. We are still in the process of setting it all up, but we are getting rid of the monthly issues and replacing it with quarterly issues. Every issue will still be choc-a-block full of information like all our previous issues, but the change in publishing frequency will allow us to spend more time preparing each issue. As you probably don’t know, everyone contributing to Farmer magazine has a full time job, away from the magazine. Yes, Farmer magazine is not the product of a multinational publishing house, Oh No we are farming enthusiasts, who use our spare time to put every issue together, and it is something we are very proud of. We believe it helps us stay in touch with the grassroots movements and are not afraid to share stories from some of the smallest farming operations out there, if we think there is something in it for everyone.

Secondly, you will also see some changes to our App store presence with a new App icon and feature videos, we will also be giving the magazine’s layout a face-lift and we are planning on featuring more products and advertisements, in upcoming issues. We will introduce a media kit in the future for anyone wanting to advertise in the magazine. All in all, these changes are part of a small publication that is evolving, with an enthusiastic team that would like to see it on the smartphones of more farmers, everywhere.

So for now, just keep an eye out for all these changes as they get rolled out over coming months and don’t forget to join us on our Facebook page for all other news and stories, that you won’t necessarily find in every issue.
